Letter to Diane Finley

Honourable Diane Finley
Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A6

Dear Minister Finley,

I am writing on behalf of the Office of Justice, Peace and Integrity of creation (JPIC) of the Congregation of Notre Dame (English Speaking Section) in support of the recently released (November 2011) report entitled “Federal Poverty Reduction Plan: working in Partnership toward Reducing Poverty in Canada” that was released by HUMA, an all party committee of Parliament.

The report calls for the federal government to immediately commit to a federal action plan to reduce poverty in Canada.  At the JPIC Office we represent more than 650 Canadian Sisters and Associates.   We have long been active in working to assist those living in poverty in Canada and have seen the critical need for such a report.  Now that we have the recommendations of the Committee, we urge you to make every possible effort to bring them to reality.

In particular we ask you to commit to developing a national poverty reduction plan.  We believe that this is the central key to an effective and well co-ordinated anti-poverty strategy that will bring real health and wellness to all Canadians.

Thank you for your consideration of our concern.  We look forward to receiving information from you on how the Government intends to proceed with implementation of the report’s recommendations.

Sincerely,

Monica Lambton
Coordinator,
